hydrant booster
I've started a collection of "hydrant booster" signs.. You know those fire hydrant boxes.. Often the words start to break down and dirt gets caught all over them, and they make interesting shapes. Here's one where I vectorised the words and other textures and placed them in MARCEL. True, it's not your usual collage with the rough street edges, and dulled down colours, but it's a different take.
I have to say though, this particular output is something I could have easily done myself in illustrator or photoshop. I've noticed that half the things I output are pretty average, 1/4 is total crap, like below,

and 1/4 is amazing stuff...

which you can scale to make patterns
which you can rotate..
or hide the grid, so it's not obvious..

- Have logged on to actionscript.org forums and asked for help on colouring my objects.. The response I got was pretty complicated so I might have to leave that aside. I did spark some interest in generative art though, so have got other people exploring it. I've sent MARCEL to a guy I met on the forums. and in exchange, he will send me back work that he's done with it. Hopefully it will be in time for the folio.
- Writing my thesis at the moment, so not much visual stuff. But I am drawing bits and pieces that might go into a mix.
DO any of you guys have any topics you want me to do with MARCEL? I need some new ideas.. Even if you want me to remix your work, just send it through..

I've been trying to think of new ways that I can improve my concept. Here's one of them. The idea is that everytime you click the image, a random message will appear. Because you're the one that clicks it, it is your 'choice' in a sense, and whatever you get is your fault.
heheh.. well in theory. Problem is that I can't remember how to make it so that it only loads one message, and not all of them.. so instead you have a little mess of thoughts.
Still looks kind of cool.
oh wait.. my housemates came around and fixed it for me.. dang.. why do they have to go and be so smart... But now that I've seen it, I'm thinking I actually like the first one better.
